The Healing Power of Music
Please forgive me for the appearance of this page, but it is work in progress. I hope this page will help many of you find peace as well as healing as I have in music.
There is plenty of scientific evidence that suggests that music has healing powers. I have added some helpful videos to help you in playing any type of instrument and / or if you just want to listen to some soothing music.
I know this, because after I completed my first round of chemotherapy in May of 2003, I had attended many support group sessions and had found out that after my chemotherapy I would get to look forward to having to suffer from painful neuropathy in either my hands or feet. Since I used and still use my hands a lot for my job and in general, I had read about one cancer patient on the internet who had learned how to play a stringed instrument and this had helped her hands from developing neuropathy and had also helped her memory improve due to chemo brain. I can't find the site today, but back then I had read about the possiblity of playing a stringed instrument in which it could help my brain activity from the chemobrain; by learning something new and to stimulate brain activity.
My father bought me my first electric guitar of which I learned to play left handed. I'm not very good, but I still play every now and then and it does help sooth me to just rock out!
Here I am fresh off chemo in 2003, about 40 less than I am now. I am rocking out! I was in and out of the emergency room at this time in my life. I couldn't even digest food just yet and still manged to smile. That's what music does to me! Please read about my miracle in the March / April edition of the Good Kharma Newsletter. It's coming out soon!
