This page was built to help find homes for PMU mares and foals. Many of the horses here are rescue horses. With the price of gas surpassing $4 a gallon, horses may well be transportation once again.
It is spring time and there are many babies, mares, stallions, and even geldings available for adoption at the Animali farm.
THE ANIMALI FARM HORSE RESCUE UPDATE
As we began to write this update we realized that it has been 2 ½ months since our last email to the list. What an incredibly busy year 2007 was, and just as busy as we have started 2008.
THE RANCHERS HAVE DECIDED TO KEEP those mares just A FEW MORE MONTHS, in order to give us a chance to find homes for them this summer as they foal. THIS WAS POSSIBLE BECAUSE SO MANY OF THEM GOT HOMES IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS.
THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR SUPPORT.
THERE ARE STILL OVER 40 HORSES LISTED ON THE WEBSITE DESPERATELY NEEDING HOMES. THERE ARE STILL SOME DONATIONS AVAILABLE TO HELP REDUCE THEIR COST, AS LONG AS THE FUNDS LAST.
In 2007 The Animali Farm delivered 318 rescued horses to their new homes. Over 60,000 miles were driven delivering horses, from ranches in Alberta, Canada to homes all over the North America. We have already delivered 30 horses to their new homes this year, with another 50 ready to travel in the upcoming weeks. Nearly all of the horses came from former PMU ranches, and were in danger of going to auction and being sold to slaughter. Instead with our help they went to adopters all over the United States and Canada. Two lucky horses even went to Hawaii! We were able to place ALL of the horses from three of the X-PMU ranches we were working with, and greatly reduce the numbers at another 11 ranches. After years of working to place horses coming out of the PMU industry we are finally seeing progress made. This would not have been possible without you, our supporters. Hundreds of people gave money to help reduce the cost of shipping horses to their new homes. This helped people adopt when otherwise the cost would have made it impossible. The fact that so many people cared, and were making donations to help, gave the ranchers hope when they were just about to give up on their horses. Last year hundreds of horses were posted on our website needing homes. It is amazing how many people knew them all, by name. People from all over the world were connected by our effort to save these horses. Video’s were made from our pictures, and posted on UTube. One lady posted ad’s on Craig’s list, all over the USA. Other people made flyers, and put them in mailboxes, the old fashioned way. The Blessed Broodmare project organized a huge fundraising effort. The message was the same everywhere, horses were out of time, and only us horse lovers could do something about it. As we begin 2008 we are still helping several ranches that have horses urgently needing homes. Many of them are pregnant mares, mostly registered Quarterhorses. The clock is ticking, because as their pregnancy progresses it will become impossible to ship them to their new homes. We must stop shipping pregnant mares by mid-March. Most of these mares are horses that were used in the PMU barns. They are nice mares, but only halter broke. The ranchers bred them, hoping that the adopters would be able to have a nice foal out of them in the spring. It is our goal that these “ladies” be able to have their babies at their new homes, where the foal can be raised with love from birth. These mares have truly earned a chance for a happy life with people who care for them. As you look through the website you will see that some horses have deadlines posted on their pages, after which the rancher will be taking the horse to an auction. These ranchers desperately need to reduce their numbers, and have held on as long as they can. If these horses go to a sale they will most likely go to the meat buyer. We are hopeful that will not happen. Your donations will help them right now.
